Earth Day 2008 LogoEarth Day 2008: Local Action…Global Impact
11 a.m. Saturday, April 19th at Forsyth Park
The Earth Day 2008 recognition will be the 12th consecutive annual celebration in Savannah. This year’s theme is “Local Action….Global Impact”. Earth Day will provide an opportunity for local businesses, industries, nonprofits, and governments to showcase applied sound environmental practices.

The event which includes a festival and recycling element continues to grow and receive support from the community. This year it will be recognized on Saturday, April 19th at Forsyth Park. The very popular RecycleRama begins at 8 a.m. on Park Avenue just south of Forsyth Park. The Festival begins at 11 a.m. in Forsyth Park. The combination of recycling opportunities, entertainment, food, crafts, informational booths, and activities will appeal to people of all backgrounds and ages. Free Classes
Vermiculture: Kitchen Composting Basics, 11:30 a.m. April 19 at Forsyth Park
This demonstration will explain the basics of setting up and maintaining your own worm bin to compost kitchen scraps. Worm composting is a great way to naturally enrich your garden and house plants, while reducing your household waste. To sign up for Vermiculture: Ktichen Composting, please email

Recycle Rama
The RecycleRama grows every year. In 2007 items collected included 3300 gallons of paint, 120 car batteries and 150 miscellaneous batteries, 500 gallons of oil, 300 tires, 300 lbs of plastic, and 800 lbs of aluminum. Volunteers are needed to facilitate unloading and traffic control. Please email Agusta Callaway to sign up.

Join in on the fun Saturday morning with a family-friendly 5k run. Organized by Chatham County 4-H.

Interested in letting everyone know your green best management practices or programs? Be an exhibitor at Earth 2008. Businesses, industries, not for profits, government agencies, institutions/schools, etc. are welcome to apply for exhibition space on Saturday, April 19th in Forsyth Park. Your application will be reviewed and approved based on the information provided; therefore, complete each question thoughtfully.
