Best Run-off Practices

Best Management Practice (BMP) seminars, defined for each pollution source, are a method for preventing or reducing the pollution resulting from an activity. The term originated from rules and regulation in Section 208 of the Clean Water Act. BMPs shed enlightening insight on issues related to the needs within Chatham County, Georgia.

BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS

As part of the extensive education program funded by Chatham County, the Town of Thunderbolt, and the Cities of Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, and Tybee Island, the MPC Water Resources staff target an industry type each year for BMP education. In 2004, municipal and private car wash facilities were the targeted group. In October 2005, the area covered was oil change/maintenance facilities.more less

In March of 2004, an informational seminar entitled "Car Wash BMP Seminar! A Best Management Practices Seminar for Municipal and Privately Owned Car Wash/Detail Facilities" was held by the MPC. The topics presented at the seminar included stormwater, non-point source pollution, Community Partners for Clean Water (CPCW), inspections, and best management practices for application and disposal of wash water activities. Any private or municipal representative from within Chatham County was allowed to attend at no charge.
