We must remember this and not take water for granted when we turn on our taps, take showers, and water our lawns. City Hall Tours — The City of Savannah’s Public Information Office gives tours of City Hall to the students of schools throughout Savannah, Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island, and Chatham County. During these tours, the City of Savannah staff speaks to the children about protection of water resources. This brief lecture covers where water comes from, saltwater intrusion, how to conserve water, storm water pollution and how to prevent water pollution. The teachers participating in the City Hall tours get an extensive informational packet on Water Resources to use in their classrooms and a copy of the Water Sourcebook for their grade level.
Water Sourcebook for Teachers. The Water Resources Program purchases Water Sourcebooks for teachers in all Chatham County – Savannah public schools. The books are geared for grade levels K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. All grade levels are available on the CD-ROM. Lessons use water and water issues to interest students in every subject including: language arts, science, math and art. The Water Sourcebook was produced by The United States Environmental Protection Agency, Legacy, Inc and the Water Environment Federation; and is distributed in Georgia by the Georgia Water Wise Council. Water Smart Puppet Show. The Water Smart Puppet Show was created by Puppet People and is produced by the Water Resource Program. This program uses puppets, music and storytelling to teach elementary school age children about water resources and water conservation. Every year between 20 and 25 elementary schools in Chatham County receive a visit from the Water Smart Puppet Show, and its always an exciting and memorable experience for the children.
