COUNTYWIDE STORM DRAIN MARKING PROGRAMAll people as well as our wildlife friends benefit from the clean litter-free rainwater that replenishes our streams, rivers, and water resources. This program was developed and is administered by MPC Water Resources staff to educate the public about stormwater pollution, its causes and how to prevent it.
All public and private schools in Savannah, Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island and Chatham County received information about this program. Information is also distributed during outreach events. These have been numerous. All of the municipalities' public works departments continue with a policy of marking drains as they clean them. The total number of storm drains for the entire Chatham County area (to include unincorporated and the other municipalities exclusive of Savannah) is approximately 800.
Coastal Scale Non-Point Source Model.
A scale model of a typical coastal area was purchased from Enviroscapes.com to educate the public about stormwater pollution. The model was on display at various events in Chatham County such as Grays Reef Day on River Street and Earth Day at Forsyth Park. These exhibits were open to the citizens of Savannah, Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Savannah, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island, and Chatham County.
Presentation Opportunities. The Water Resources Program staff is available to speak about water resource protection to groups of all ages in the community such as area Rotary Clubs, high schools, gardening clubs as well as at seminars.
