As a coastal community, impacts from climate change pose a real concern for planning staff and residents alike. Several initiatives are underway to establish a plan and process for how we can move forward and integrate these concerns for both reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and for adapting to resulting changes in climate patterns.
2010 NOAA Coastal Risks Workshop
In March of 2010 local officials, staff and concerned citizens worked together with staff from the NOAA Coastal Services Center to develop a roadmap for Chatham County to address public safety, infrastructure and environmental protection issues related to climate change. This included education on the specific threats to coastal Georgia and its shifting climate patterns.
